| How do I heat my gel pack in the
microwave?
Spread the gel evenly and heat for 20 or 30 seconds. Knead the gel from side to side to spread the heat evenly. It the gel pack is not warm enough, microwave it for another 10 seconds. Repeat until the desired temperature is reached. The total time you need depends on the microwave and the size of the gel pack. Please use caution - the gel can get very hot! If the gel pack starts to expand stop heating immediately. How long will the gel pack stay warm? It varies depending on the size of the gel pack, the ambient temperature and for how long it is heated. A 5"x7" gel pack should stay warm for about an hour in a pocket or fleece pouch, while larger gel packs stay warm for 2 to 3 hours. My gel pack heats unevenly. Make sure to spread the gel evenly when you microwave it. I don't have a microwave - how can heat my gel pack? You can use hot water. Bring water to the boil then remove from heat. Immerse the gel pack in the hot water for 5 to 10 minutes until it has reached the desired temperature. Please use caution and do not overheat - the gel can get extremely hot! What is the gel pack made of? Inside the gel pack is a highly absorbent non-toxic, biodegradable gel, the same used in babies' diapers. Can I buy gel packs in sizes other than those on your products page? Yes. Contact us to see if we can make something to your specifications. Can I use my gel pack for both heating and cooling? Yes, unless you have a 'cold-only' gel pack which cannot be heated. For how long can I leave my gel pack in the freezer? Months. What is the expected life span of a gel pack? The gel packs are made of a very durable plastic and will last a very long time if treated well. The plastic is strong but can be punctured or damaged, especially when frozen. If you overheat the gel pack it may cause the plastic to weaken over time and puncture. Follow the heating instructions. Can I put my gel pack directly from the freezer into the microwave? We do not recommend this as the gel pack could overheat in certain areas. Rather defrost it in warm water first. Will the gel pack stay flexible when it is frozen? It depends on the type you have. We have 'flexible-when-frozen' gel packs which will remain flexible, while the others will freeze solid. Will my gel pack break if I sit on it? No. The gel packs can withstand 700 psi. Why should the gel pack not be exposed to direct sunlight? The gel is biodegradable and the UV light enhances its degradation. What happens if the gel pack breaks and the gel spills? The gel is very slippery. Clean up the gel and flush it down the drain with lots of water. If it is allowed to dry and comes into contact with water later, it will absorb the water causing a large quantity of gel. What if I need a replacement gel pack for my Gelpakwarmer? The gel packs are inexpensive and replacements are available for all the Gelpakwarmers. You can order a replacement gel pack online or phone/fax/email us. Can I wash my Gelpakwarmer? Yes, the Gelpakwarmers can be machine washed in cold water. Remember to keep colours separate. Tumble dry on the low setting. Any questions about ordering and shipping?
